- Opera’s local AI. I know, I know all the browsers are doing things around AI, and I keep bringing it up. But Opera is doing something new and clever. You can download a variety of open source AI models to your computer, allowing you to run AI completely locally, not just in your browser. I’ll try digging.
- “When I made a graph from Wikipedia, it looked like this” This video broke my brain in the best way. It’s just a narrator and a lot of graphs, but it shows you how Wikipedia really works, including the most linked articles, the platform’s central topics, and some interesting dead ends. Wikipedia is getting better and better.
- Brave Leo. It’s time to talk about browser AI again! Leo, his Mixtral-based chatbot from Brave, also seeks to implement his AI in a way that protects privacy. I’m always here for that.leo’s Also released on iOS, a few months after landing on Android, you’ll be able to use Leo everywhere you use Brave. This is also built into the browser in a very close and convenient way.
- “Jon Stewart talks about the false promise of AI” The most concise argument for AI ever. And it’s not really against AI, it’s just against the hype cycle and the way it’s talked about and used. Also, Stewart’s interview with Lina Khan Its articles on antitrust and AI are fascinating, and it’s full of great streaming drama.
- Food delivery app last week tonight. I recommend both Jon Stewart and John Oliver: novels, right? We’re really breaking new ground here. But this one is just too good not to share. The Verge. The delivery app doesn’t really work for everyone involved, but Oliver solves the problem perfectly. And angry.
- retro. I’m skeptical about this, and other people are thinking, “It’s Instagram, but we’re real friends again!” App.But I do Retro’s newest feature, Journals, brings a collaborative album creation system to the app. I only do this with Google Photos, but it’s a smart addition to an app like this.
- gotham city lego set. Four thousand two hundred. I’m obsessed with this and honestly a little scared. The $300 price tag puts it in the category of quite a luxury item, but it ended up being the first and only item on my birthday list this year.
- was here. I can’t recommend other newsletters enough here. I’m going to start with a newsletter from two of the best guys on the internet, Hank and John Green. At least so far, this is just a newsletter. A collection of weird and fun internet jokes. Instagram registration.
screen sharing
As part of writing this newsletter, I created a big folder full of cool home screens I found around the web. (Now that I think about it, I should share many of them here. I’ll come back to that.) But inside that folder are the ones that cause the noise I felt when I first saw them. Very little has changed. Daniyal Ansari home screen.
Turns out it was actually Daniyal. Build and sell these homescreen designsalong with icons and widgets. Others — and I found myself flipping through every page, looking for tips on how to make my phone look sophisticated, simple, and stylish. nice Like the one Daniyal made. But we figured our best bet was to go to the source, so we asked him to give us some tips.
Below is Daniyal’s home screen and information about which apps he uses and why.
phone: Starlight iPhone 13 128GB.
wallpaper: The wallpaper is a plain background with a color that matches the dock. The hex code is #F3F3F3 for light mode and #242424 for dark mode. This will completely hide the dock and give your home screen a cleaner look.
App: I try to keep my home screen clean. My favorite app is YouTube Music. Although not very popular, the combination of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music makes a lot of sense to me. I keep my Notes app handy and create various folders within it to categorize and dump information.
Create a custom widget using an app called Withy In the App Store. It’s a great app that syncs with built-in Apple apps and lets you display information like weather, calendar events, reminders, and more with a variety of customization options to create the look you want.I also use two apps called MD blank and transparent app icon You will be able to create free space on your home screen (as Apple won’t allow you to do so).
We also asked Daniyal to tell us about some of the things he’s currently passionate about. Here’s what he sent back:
- What program are you currently addicted to? drive to survive. I started following F1 a few years ago and loved how engineering and the sport come together.
- I’m very interested in productivity apps and really enjoy them of Waveform episode with you.I started using it concept calendarYes, the scenery for 3 days is amazing.
- The creators I follow the most are: MKBHD and Star Talk with Dr. Neil deGrasse TysonHowever, I would like to specifically mention David Imel. He only has 5 videos on his YouTube channel (he should make more), but the way he explains every concept is extraordinary. It’s like a really cool professor who’s good at getting the basics right. his “How the Italian Renaissance saved smartphone cameras” is my favorite YouTube video of all time. As a graduate student majoring in literature and interested in technology, that video is perfect for my interests.

“You describe Tiny Desk as “all things fun about the Internet,” and that’s exactly how I would describe it. flavor trip, a YouTube channel and DJ couple from Luxembourg. They stream chill house music sets (often accompanied by live guitar) from around Europe. Meals will also be prepared at the filming location. “What I would like to recommend is Listy. A simple list management app. I started using it to keep track of books, board games, movies, and TV shows. Previously, I used the standard Notes app, but Listy is much easier to use because you can simply add new entries using the browser’s sharing feature. ” — Peter
“picotron. It’s a bit niche, but for some people it’s gold. This is a “fantasy workstation” created by the person who created Pico-8. It’s still in its very early stages and very buggy, but it’s very exciting in these early days and it’s like going back to the very early days of computing. People are already building primitive web browsers, calculators, and games. ” — Tom
“Ninth Gideon This is the most fun, wild, crazy, fascinating book I’ve ever read, and I can’t put it down. A Mad Conspiracy…The Immortal Emperor’s eight feudal families, the Necrolords, and his Primes send master necromancers and novice knights across the solar system with the goal of becoming Lyctors in the Emperor’s service. I will raise it up and accept the challenge. Very descriptive and visual, perfect for drawing as a movie or miniseries. I strongly recommend it! ” — Tyler

Here’s the least surprising thing I’ll write about this week: Love Video about people’s setup. Studio tours, desk tours, home screen details, and more. I love this movie as a way to see how people work and think. I also believe you can learn a lot about people by learning how they set up their spaces, both virtual and physical. That’s probably why I’m watching this movie now. Adam Savage’s “beautifully chaotic” studio video About 6 times. The place is chaotic and carefully thought out and organized. There is a story in every little piece of everything. And it’s all about making things work, not making things beautiful. I swear, there are about 60 life lessons in this one studio of his. And now I also have a strong desire to buy a table saw. This becomes a problem.
