Ai Was Everywhere And Nowhere At Amazon's 2023 Device Event

One of the key stories about the Amazon Devices and Services event, which I read in advance of the event and which I also heard while waiting in line to get in, was of course that artificial intelligence was. Will AI permeate Alexa and Amazon as a whole?

Of course it will. And of course, it’s always been here. And of course, it’s here to stay.

Right now, just like in the early days of 5G, AI is as much a marketing buzzword as it is a reality. But when everything is immersed in AI, how do you use it to stand out?

Have you ever heard a good word?

Almost everything Amazon announced this week was filled with references to AI.

“Alexa, let’s chat.” | Experience new features with Alexa

It was in the headline of press release For every new Fire TV show, you’ll find it in the first sentence of the main text, sprinkled with subheadings. I had to wait all two paragraphs before accessing the AI. press release For the new Echo Show 8, new Echo Hub, and new Echo Frames. “These new Echo devices give customers more ways to experience the world’s best personal AI and the growing generative AI capabilities coming soon to Alexa, at home and on the go.”

And there were plenty of examples of that during Amazon’s 90-minute presentation featuring all of the aforementioned products. AI quickly disappeared from the lips of Dave Limp, Amazon’s outgoing vice president of devices and services. He heard further from Rohit Prasad, senior vice president and principal investigator for artificial intelligence, and others. Also from Heather Zorn, VP of Alexa, and Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Fire TV.

That’s right, AI is all over Amazon this week. In the future, it will not only be built into the foundation of Alexa; Get used to it Basics. Its importance cannot be overstated.

Here’s the problem. If everything has AI, is it really the feature that sells devices and drives usage of services? And just like in the previous 5G wars, Amazon’s AI really is much better than Google’s. Is it better? Or is it Apple’s? Or is it Microsoft’s?

There’s no such thing as “more AI!” Stick the sticker on your new Echo Dot or Fire TV soundbar (at least we hope not). This may be similar to the old “Intel Inside” badge, but it’s much more fundamental than that. Intel was the engine. AI and large language models and datasets are the new fuel. Automakers may proudly put a “V8” badge on their cars, but no one sticks a “petrol” sticker on it.

Perhaps more than anything else, price is what will continue to sell Amazon products (with the exception of $600 consumer routers). You would expect a $50 or $60 Fire TV Stick to have AI. You would expect an Echo speaker to have AI. Because, going back to the original Echo all those years ago, Echo speakers are also coming with AI. And AI will end up in devices that look cool rather than useful. If today’s AI-studded Microsoft Surface event is any indication, that’s exactly where things are headed.

Rohit Prasad, chief scientist for artificial general intelligence at Amazon, said: Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

AI is key right now. Deposits are not that high yet, but they will become more expensive over time in terms of what we can do as consumers, what we can bring to businesses, and how everything works for us. , will become important. Data (both segmented and bulk data) is processed.

That’s true for everyone. This week was especially true for Amazon.
