Amazon's echo will send all audio recordings to the cloud

Amazon Echo users no longer have the option to process Alexa requests locally, and all audio recordings are sent to the company’s cloud.

ARS Technica Report On Friday, Amazon sent emails to customers who said they would not send audio recordings on Echo Smart speakers and displays, saying it would stop supporting privacy-enhancing features on March 28th.

“We have decided to no longer support this feature as we continue to expand Alexa’s capabilities with its power-dependent generation AI capabilities in Amazon’s Secure Cloud,” the email said.

This is now known as Alexa+ as Amazon is rolling out a new version of its voice-controlled AI assistant. Consumers and regulators have expressed concern about Alexa’s past privacy implications, and Amazon agrees to pay $25 million in 2023 with the Federal Trade Commission on Child Privacy.
