Discord shuts down experimental AI chatbot Clyde.in support notesAccording to Discord, the chatbot will be “deactivated” at the end of this month, and by December 1, “users will no longer be able to summon Clyde in DMs, group DMs, or server chats.”
Discord first began testing Clyde’s AI capabilities earlier this year, using OpenAI’s models to enable chatbots to answer questions and converse with Discord users. It has been in limited testing since then, and the company planned to make it a fundamental part of its chat and community apps.
It is unclear why Clyde was suddenly shut down. It’s also possible that the chatbot will return as a paid Nitro-only feature in the future. Or perhaps he decided that Discord had learned enough from the testing period that it didn’t need to incorporate an AI chatbot into the service. We’ve reached out to Discord for comment on this closure and will update you accordingly.
Discord has been experimenting with various AI features, including AI-generated conversation summaries. This allows Discord users to catch up on conversations they may have missed, and is especially useful for servers that span multiple time zones. Discord is also looking to position its platform as a home for AI developers, with funding and resources to help developers build AI apps for Discord.
