Austin Smith, CEO of Indianapolis-based Watchman Security, said the goal of the new gun detection software is to stop crimes before they happen.
INDIANAPOLIS — Crime scene after crime scene in Indianapolis. Marion County has had more than 200 homicides this year.
Communities are often frustrated and fed up with gun violence.
“What if there was a gun technology that actually issued public safety alerts and warnings?” austin smithCEO of watchman security in Indianapolis.
Smith said his company uses gun detection software that uses artificial intelligence. The goal is to stop crimes before they occur.
Smith demonstrated to 13News how the software works. He showed a man carrying a fake 9mm handgun as a gun detection system zeroed in on the weapon.
“That’s how the alert gets passed down to our command, and then he moves to different parts of the facility and a ping appears every time the AI detects where that person is,” Smith said. said.
Smith said the AI technology does not use facial recognition.
“The key with artificial intelligence is to make sure it’s used appropriately. We’re not Big Brother,” Smith said.
This is technology that helps make streets in and around Indianapolis safer.
“What we’re talking about is when people take their weapons out of their holsters, an alarm goes off and a geopin is dropped where that person is,” Smith said.
