Earlier this week, humanity deployed the web search capabilities of Claude, an AI-powered chatbot platform, bringing bots alongside many rivals. It was not immediately clear which search indexes were powering the feature. One possibility was that humanity developed its own development. However, the evidence suggests that it is Brave Search, a search engine maintained by browser developer Brave.

British programmer Simon Willison Report At least one search in Claude and Brave returned the same quote. Willison too Found Claude’s web search function contains a parameter called “BravesearchParams”.

Brave supports the search capabilities of at least one other chatbot: Mistral’s chatbot platform Le Chat. In February, Brave and Mistral announced Le Chat Use Brave’s search API Live web results.
Some AI companies keep information about their search index partnerships close to their chest, perhaps for competitive reasons. Openai has a partnership with Bing, but also uses other private sources to enhance the search experience in ChatGPT.
