Amazon has fulfilled its promise to launch Alexa+, an upgraded Alexa experience by the end of March. However, the service reportedly lacks many of the features Amazon demonstrated at a press event in late February.
Alexa+ Unable to run certain “agent” AI tasks yet According to the Washington Post, it has been featured in company marketing, including ordering takeout on Grubhub and generating stories to entertain kids. Also, assistants can’t remind people to visually identify and do certain chores or to do gift ideas that brainstorm the two additional features shown on the presser.
Other features will only be deployed to a subset of users who will start, such as the ability to order Uber and get cooking recommendations. Meanwhile, the web app announced by Amazon to Alexa+ last month does not have a specific release window.
It is said that Alexa+ was plagued by problems from the start due to the challenges in the AI infrastructure that underpins it. Judging from the post’s report, it appears that Amazon hasn’t come out of the woods yet.
