Yahoo is updating the desktop version of Yahoo Mail with new AI features and other capabilities to simplify email and task management.
One highlight is quick, AI-generated summaries of emails. These summaries come with a bulleted list that highlights suggested tasks or other actions. This can be found under a new Priority Inbox tab that, like Gmail, uses AI to highlight the messages Yahoo thinks are most important. Gmail recently announced a similar summary feature for its mobile apps, but it’s paid for Workspace and Google One AI Premium subscribers.
In addition to AI-powered summaries, Yahoo is also making it easier to quickly access and respond to email. Quick action buttons now appear directly in the inbox, allowing users to add an event to their calendar, check in for a flight or track a package, and a new persistent “Starred View” panel lets users quickly see and access their most important tasks and other items they want to revisit.
Finally, Yahoo Mail users can now link their inbox to other email accounts, such as Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, and AOL, allowing them to send and receive email all from within Yahoo Mail.
“People are hungry for better ways to streamline everyday activities that often burden us, like managing multiple email accounts, organizing schedules, reading lengthy messages and tracking orders. The new features we’re launching are aimed at making life easier for everyone who relies on email,” said Kyle Miller, vice president of product for Yahoo! Mail.
The feature is available to new US users starting today and will be rolled out to existing US users on an opt-in basis, and will be available to Yahoo Mail mobile apps in the future.
This isn’t Yahoo Mail’s first foray into the world of AI: Last summer, Yahoo Mail added a slew of generative AI features, including an improved search mode, a shopping saver feature that helps you find forgotten gift cards or discount codes, and a writing assistant that helps you craft emails with the right writing style.
